Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitoring and Alert System

An IoT-based system that monitors indoor air quality parameters and triggers physical alerts when the gathered data exceeds configured thresholds.

Role

Developer — IoT firmware and cloud data pipeline

Academic Project

Categories: IoT & Embedded · Cloud

Timeline

Year 4 Semester 1

Responsibilities

  • Developed an IoT-based system to monitor air quality parameters (temperature, humidity, and gas levels) and trigger alerts when thresholds are exceeded based on the data gathered by the system.
  • Implemented real-time data transmission using MQTT and cloud platforms (GCP for assignment, V-One for project).
  • Wired and programmed sensors DHT11 (temperature and humidity) and MQ2 (gas/smoke), with an onboard buzzer, red and yellow LEDs, an optocoupler relay module, and a shaft motor with propeller as alert actuators.
  • Used C++ for the system, uploaded to the ESP-32 utilising WiFi.

Tech Stack

  • C++
  • ESP-32
  • MQTT
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • V-One
  • DHT11 Sensor
  • MQ2 Sensor
